Daddy / Daughter Dance

Lindsey attacking balloons at the dance.

Friday night Lindsey's school had their annual daddy/daughter dance. We didn't stay that long because it was the day after the Sugar Plum dance... so we were both tired! But Lindsey still had fun dancing with her friend's from school.

Lindsey's First Day Of 1st Grade

Lindsey in her room before we head off to class.

Lindsey's teacher talks to the class.

This week was Lindsey's first day of 1st grade. It seems like it was just yesterday that we were taking her to pre-k. I'm sure before we know it she'll be graduating from college! She wasn't nervous at all... she actually ran in her classroom as I was talking to one of her teachers in the hall. She is back in class with her friend Jacob. They weren't in the same class last year, but they had been in the same class every other year since her 2 year old room at her old school. So far she won't tell me what she has done in class... she keeps saying "I don't want to talk about it."

Lindsey's Kindergarten Recognition Program

Today after Lindsey's end of the year program (see below post) they had a recognition ceremony for all that the students had achieved in kindergarten. Lindsey got recognized for completing all the books assigned to her every month of the school year... she got an all star reader certificate. She also got a certificate for being in art club. And then a certificate for completing kindergarten. I cannot believe all that Lindsey has learned this year in kindergarten. She scored very high on the benchmark exams and is already reading on a 2nd grade level. Her teacher was wonderful and really helped her grow. She is more than ready for 1st grade!

Lindsey's Kindergarten End Of The Year Program

Today all 4 kindergarten classes at Lindsey's school did an end of the year program called The "Very Hungry Kindergartner". They went through the months in the school year and explained what they learned all year. Lindsey had two parts in the program. First, she was a pickle when they were talking about what they learned about eating right. Then, she had a speaking roll when they were explaining a life cycle of a chicken. Boy, they learn more than just their ABC's and 123's in kindergarten now!

Chess Tournament

Saturday Lindsey was in a chess tournament at her school. She started to learn how to play chess through an after school chess club at her school. I cannot believe she is learning how to play chess. I tried to learn one day and was so confused!! She only won one game, but she was playing against kids older than her. She was upset that she only won one game, but Laurie explained to her that she was younger than all the kids and that some day she would be able to win like they did.

Book Character Dress Up Day

Friday was book character dress up day at Laurie and Lindsey's school. Laurie went as Emily Elizabeth and Lindsey was puppy Clifford. Lindsey wore all red with little red ears... she even had a black nose! That big red thing in the pictures is a big red backpack that is in their school library.

100th Day of School

This week Lindsey and Laurie had their 100th day of school. For homework for this day Lindsey had to do something with 100 things on it. She got a big piece of paper and took her stamps and put 100 stamps on the big paper. The picture you see is of a parade they had down the hall. Lindsey is wearing glasses that say "100".

Lindsey's Class Performs At Magnet Fair

This Saturday Lindsey's Kindergarten class performed at magnet fair at a local mall. Magnet fair is a place where parents can come to see if they want their child to go to a magnet school. They sang a song in front of a bunch of people. I was suprised that Lindsey actually did it! She is usually scared of performing in front of crowds.

Lindsey Crams One Month Of Reading Into One Night

Lindsey's teacher gives rewards (a pizza from Pizza Hut) to her students when they read 10 books in a month. Lindsey figured out that some of her classmates were reading all 10 books in one night so she wanted to do the same. We did NOT pressure her to do it. We actually had to tell her to stop reading that night so she could go to bed. So, first thing the next morning, instead of turning on Spongebob Squarepants like she usually does, she broke out her books on the couch and finished reading all 10!

Lindsey's Kindergarten Christmas Party

On the last day of school Lindsey's classroom had a Christmas party. I got to leave work to go to it. Her teacher put me to work when I got there. I got to help the kids make Christmas wreaths. That was an adventure! The other things they got to do were make a reindeer Christmas ornament, make a bookmark with their picture on it, make a garland out of berries, and of course, EAT!

Father/Daughter Dance

Lindsey's school had a Father/Daughter dance on Friday night, the night after the Sugar Plum dance (see post below). This one was less formal, as you can see. We had a really good time again. Lindsey spent most of the time running around with her friends, but she did dance with me a few times. She also had fun dancing with Bethany, one of Laurie's teacher friends.

Saturday, September 16, 2006

The PTA at Lindsey's school held a Back to School Bash on Friday for the kids. They had a blow-up slide, a bouncing house, arts and crafts to do, and food. Lindsey had fun sliding and jumping with all her friends. She had a balloon hat made with one of her new friends in her kindergarten class, Mikiah. You can she them together in one of the pictures.

Lindsey Starts Kindergarten

Lindsey started kindergarten on August 21st. She transferred to Laurie's school so she can be with Mom. Her new teacher is Mrs. Daniel. We were were afraid she wouldn't like it because she was leaving all the friends she had been with for 3 years. But when we walked her in her new classroom, she sat down at her seat, started working on a puzzle, and waved goodbye to us. She won't tell us a lot about what she is doing in class, but we think she is doing well. They have tested her on where she is learning-wise, and when they did the reading test, she didn't miss a word! I know she has gone to science lab and young astronauts lab already this week. I didn't know they had those things for kindergarteners!!!
